Tanjung Bidara

Tanjung Bidara located approximately 35 km north of Malacca town, is one of Malacca's popular beach resorts. A beach with swaying casuarinas and fine white sand, its cove is perfectly suited for relaxation or recreational activities such as swimming and a host of water sports. There are also numerous shade trees for cosy picnics.

Add to these attractions, the journey through Malacca's scenic countryside of swaying padi fields and Malay kampung houses and Tanjung Bidara is a serene hideaway worth visiting.

Many hawkers line the beach peddling food and there are amenities such as parking lots, playgrounds and showers.


Pulau Besar

Pulau Besar
Pulau Besar is the biggest island among the cluster of island in Melaka. Pulau Besar is located about 3 nautical miles off Pengkalan Pernu at Umbai, 10km south of Melaka town. Those in search of fresh air, sandy beaches and tranquillity will be entranced by the unspoilt natural beauty of the island. There is an island resort with beach chalets, a yacht club and a host of sea based sporting facilities. The island is ideal for swimming, fishing, snorkelling, camping and picnicking.

In this island, contains many history myth and legends such as:

1.Shrine of Sultan Ariffin
  • According to legend, Sultan Ariffin from Baghdad was on the way home. But then, he stopped at Pulau Besar to spreading Islam at Acheh. On his way home, he landed in Pulau Besar and fell ill there
2. Yunus Cave
  • The mysterious cave where a wise man called Yunus used as part of his training in self discipline and silat practices.
3. Telaga Air Tawar (Fresh Water Well)
  • It is a unique fresh water well exceedingly close to the sea. Legend has it that when the tide is high the water in the water well would be salty but during low tide the water would be fresh.
4. Telaga Tempayan (Wishing Well)
  • According to a legend, if you make a wish in the Wishing Well by dipped your hand in the well, your wish will come true.
5. Shrine of 7 Princess
  • The Tomb belongs to 7 princesses from India who while visited to this island were struck down by an epidemic. The princesses were buried on the island.
6. Batu Belah (Splitting Rock)
  • The famous rock at the golf course, more then a century ago Panglima Lidah Hitam demonstrated his power by using his tongue to crack the rock into two.
7. Shrine of Sharifah Rodziah
  • A pious woman and devout Muslim. She was said to be the 'guru' to Malay queen legend Siti Zubaidah. She played an important role in the spread of Islam in the region.

Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum

Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum
Baba and Nyonya also known as Peranakan or Straits Chinese. They also are the descendants of noble Chinese who migrated to the British Straits Settlements of Singapore, Melaka and Penang and adopted the Malay culture. This unique blend of cultures is born after intermarriages between Them and the local Malay.

Established in 1896, this museum illustrate the way of living as the Peranakans, a unique blend of the east and the west.

The design of this heritage building is influenced by various European architecture Such as Victorian era chandeliers and floor tiles. The front area of the interior of the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum leads into an open courtyard. The interior of the house is complemented with a number of priceless antique furniture made from Italy, Britain and Dutch. There are also finely carved furniture featuring wonderful classic Chinese work of art. In the museum also display traditional costume, bridal chamber, cooking utensils and many more.

Maritime Museum (Flor de La Mar)

Flor de La Mar

Maritime Museum (Flor de La Mar) also known as Muzium Samudera is a Portuguese ship that sank off the coast of Melaka while on its way to Portugal, carrying loot plundered from Melaka.

The replica was start build in early 1990 and it was open to the public in 1994. The museum was officially opened by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed  on June 13, 1994.

Inside the museum, the visitors can get closer look at Melaka from the famed of Malay Sultanate of the 14th century to the Portuguese era, the Dutch era and the British era. There are exhibits of foreign ships that had once called at the port of Melaka during the height of its maritime hegemony.

The Maritime Museum is located at Quayside Road near the Melaka River estuary. The replica is 34 meters high, 36 meter long and 8 meter wide.

Inside Flor de La Mar

The museum houses exhibits, artifacts and documents from the Melaka's golden era as the Emporium of the East and reveals how political control of Melaka was essential to the establishment of maritime dominance in the region. The museum also traces Melaka's trading links from the erliest times through the colonial era, the Japanese rule, the return of Britain as the colonial master, the emergence of the independent nation of the Federation of Malaya and the formation of Malaysia.

Submarine Museum


Submarine Museum

The first Submarine Museum in Malaysia, it is opened to the public 22 November 2011 for 10 days. Thereafter, the Submarine Museum had been closed for refurbishment work and reopened again on 17 December 2011. One of the main attraction of this museum is that it will house decommissioned Agosta 70 class submarine named SMD Quessant.

This project cost RM12.6 million by the State of Government and be the 25th museums under managemaent of Perbadanan Muzium Melaka (PERZIM). The submarine was transported from Brest, France and successfully arrived in Melaka on 13 November 2011.

The submarine was built in 1979 by French that was measured 67.57 meter length, 11.75 meter height and 6.5 meter wide. SMD Quessantwas previously used for training submarine crew in Malaysia from 2005 until 2009.

Melaka Butterfly Farm and Reptile Sanctuary

Taman Rama-Rama

As the old saying: Where there is a flower, there is a butterfly. In Melaka, to see the butterfly, you just need to visit Melaka Butterfly Farm and Reptile Sanctuary. A visit to here, you will experience the natural paradise. Enjoy the visual treat to watch hundreds of butterflies fly around and sitting on the flowers. Melaka Butterfly Farm and Reptile Sanctuary are one of its own kind in entire Southeast Asia and the second best in the world.



You will find more than 200 butterfly species including Rajah Brooke and Birdwing form Borneo, which is rare nowadays. The Rajah Brooke and Birdwing is in black and electric-green birdwing. Besides, there are also the houses an extensive 400 kinds of rare insects and in-house laboratory where the butterflies are carried on.

Crocodile Farm

 

The farm is the largest in the country. Since its opening in 1987, this Crocodile Park has expended and transformed to include a section of other reptilian species. This Sprawling 3.2 hectare park, a leading tourist attraction is now home to more than 200 crocodiles of various species from all over the world including the Siamese, African Dwarf, Indian Marsh/Mugger, Humpback, Tailless and many more

Zoo Melaka












Zoo Melaka with an area of 21.2 ha is situated in Ayer Keroh, which is a well known tourism destination in Melaka. The zoo was established in 1963 and originally under the Melaka State Government but its management was taken over by The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) in 1979. The zoo total annual operating expenditure is about RM2 million. The zoo employ 66 employees in four major divisions, namely Administration, Veterinary, Curatory and Zoo Extensions.





 Zoo Melaka has progressed rapidly to be the second biggest zoo in the country. The number of exhibits have increased five-fold since 1979. At present, there are a total of over 1200 specimen made up of 215 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians in the zoo. The total annual visitation is about 400 000 people and more than half are people from Melaka and the neighbouring states. The major attractions of Zoo Melaka are the Sumatran Rhinoceros, Malayan Gaur, Serow and the Indochinese Tiger. In line with the current zoo development, Zoo Melaka adopted an Open Concept and maintains the natural green environment.
